总体情况 The Professional Development Course for Jewellery Designers and Executives to be developed by Hong Kong Design Centre in partnership with School of Jewellery, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) University of Central England (UCE), UK. Vocational Training Council (VTC) is the major supporting organization. This is a part-time intensive course to be run for three weeks in UK, from 3-21 April 2006, plus one week of prior training in Hong Kong. The course provides a flexible means of building skills, knowledge and experience for existing professional who wish to strengthen or extend their design concept and professional skills. The course will be kick-off by a guided tour to visit BaselWorld 2006, the world’s leading Watch and Jewellery Show to be held at Basel, Switzerland. It will then be followed by three weeks of world-class professional training in the vibrant University of Central London. The programme contents will be enriched by the cultural activities specifically designed for this course. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants who have finished the course and completed the projects.
课程内容Content This course will be developed and run by the Prof. Norman Cherry, Head of School of Jewellery, BIAD, UCE in conjunction with subject staff who continue to engage in professional practice or external consultancy which maintains their knowledge of current industry practice and new development. In addition, staffs are drawn from specialists in the appropriate fields as visiting lecturers from industry. Jewellery Master Class – Object of Art Objective of the workshop This is a one month workshop designed to broaden designers’ creativities and enrich their knowledge in Jewellery making and designing. The workshop composed a series of activities and workshops aiming at capturing European spirit in Contemporary Jewellery Design and production. Participants will learn the European Design methods, Design Practice and experiencing how technology integrated in the design process. Learning Goal and out come: Foundation Contemporary Jewellery Design Cultural Studies: Through a series of intensive art and design lectures in Jewellery, participant will learn how the Contemporary Jewellery are shaped and how Global Jewellery trend is developed and influenced consumers’ choice. Cultural Tour: Through a guided visit to the BaselWorld, participants will observe how design support and shape the Jewellery business and how the trend influences buyers’ choices. Design Methodology: Through three weeks of practice and learning, participants will experience how design was developed and arrived at the solution under the European Design Methods and perceived the difference between local design practice and English design practice. Jewellery making: Through three weeks of practice and learning, participants will learn and experience how technology is integrated with design process and how it supported design. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to make their own collection and will participate in an Exhibition in Hong Kong Design Centre.
课程表Programme structure Week 1 A week of intensive Cultural and Trend Training will be conducted by teaching staff of UCE in Hong Kong. Participants will start collecting their research materials for their design project. Week 2 - 3 Depart Hong Kong to Basel for a guided tour in BaselWorld over the weekend of the last weekend of March 2006. Arrive Birmingham on 2nd April. Three design practice week in Birmingham beginning on 3rd April 2006. Participants will learn Workshop skills and technique in parallel with design project and business knowledge. Participants will practice European design methods and learn how to master machine like laser welding machine, casting machine, surface finishing as well as coloring skills. (Weekends for week 2 and 3 will be dedicated to self-financing cultural tour in Milan (Milan Furniture Fair) and London.) Week 4 This week will concentrate in Realisation in both 2 and 3 dimensional ways. Participants will make the model and the final design will be presented on the last day of the workshop. Participants will continue their project in Hong Kong for another 4-6 weeks. A sharing Forum and an Exhibition will be followed in Hong Kong to conclude this project.
人数Class Size 15-20 (minimum of 15 participants. Enrolment fees will be 100% refundable if we cancel the course due to insufficient applications) Entry Requirements: The programme is aimed at a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds including those without formal qualifications but substantial relevant working experience. The programme is open to practicing designers, entrepreneurs, owners of jewellery shops, etc who have a serious interest in jewellery design and have met the following criteria: 1. HKCEE Use of English (Pass) or equivalent 2. Five years of relevant working experience or equivalent 3. Living and working in Hong Kong
费用Fees Tuition Fee: Funded by DesignSmart Initiatives* of Innovation and Technology Commission *Subject to final approval - HKDC will submit a funding proposal to apply DesignSmart Initiatives Funds (Tuition Fee only) of Innovation and Technology Commission. Result will be notified in due course through our web site. Other Fees: 1. Round-trip Airfares (HK-Basel-Birmingham-HK) (in economy class): ~HK$ 9,500 2. Accommodation (shared-basis): ~HK$ 10,500/person (include Basel and Birmingham only, exclude accommodation in Milan and London) 3. Participants’ will responsible for their own material costs for this course, living allowance, meals, local transportation and entertainment, etc Optional Fees: 1. Round-trip Airfares (Birmingham-Milan): An airfare surcharge of ~HK$ 2,000 at participants’ own expense for Milan Furniture Fair over the weekend of 8-9 April 2006. 2. London Cultural Tour (4-Day, 3-nights): at participants’ own expense (travel by coach) over the weekend of Easter Holiday.
申请过程Application and Selection Process: Application must be made direct to HKDC on an application form. Selection is based initially on his/her portfolio and previous experience, references, and the candidates’ personal statement.
